Ship sculpture by Anna Gillespie

Ship sculpture by Anna Gillespie  was installed at Half Moon Bay in March 2019. It was a part of Morecambe Bay Partnership's Headlands to Headspace arts project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

It's designed to be of no clear historic reference, yet does suggest a Viking long boat or an early Christian vessel. The two figures look forward and back, a reference the ancient past of the chapel ruins on the headland and the more modern structures of the power stations. It also references the comings and goings of people to and from the harbour.

Anna trained as a sculptor working with stone, but experimented with lighter, more manageable materials. The figures were origina5created with scrunched masking tape.
