In 1092 Roger de Poitou is granted land, including Heysham. Roger de Poitou was born in Normandy in the mid-1060s and died around 1140. He was an Anglo-Norman aristocrat. Through inheritance he gained control of all the lands north of the River Ribble to the River Lune including Heysham and around the Bay to Furness.
